Speakers
John Boyle
John graduated in 1975 from Brunel University, Uxbridge, U.K., with a
B.Sc. (Hons.) in psychology. He is a member of the British Psychological
Society, the Australian Psychological Society, and is registered with the
Victorian Psychological Council. John's clinical work encompasses the
addictive behaviours such as alcohol abuse, nicotine dependency,
cannabis use, gambling, overeating, relationship counselling, stress
management, change management, oncological and cardiac counselling
and posttraumatic stress disorder, and working with Victims of Crime.
John is involved with a number of organisations in Australia and New
Zealand, Merck Sharp and Dohme, Esso, BP, and multiple Divisions of
General Practice, Cancer Council of Victoria and the Leukaemia Foundation, Post Traumatic
Association of Mental Health, Dietetics Association, the Victorian Cancer Clinicians
Communications Skills Program, etc. Involvement is through his capacity as a trainer,
counsellor and presenter. He is a cognitive behavioural therapist with a therapeutic
philosophy of Person Centred Treatment. Much of his time is spent in presenting in
conferences, workshops and seminars.
Garry Egger MPH PhD MAPS
Southern Cross University, Australia
Dr Garry Egger MPH, PhD has worked in public, corporate and clinical
health for nearly 4 decades. He is the author of 30 books (including five
texts) over 150 peer-reviewed scientific and research articles and numerous
popular media articles on health and fitness. He is a Consultant Professor of
Health Sciences at Southern Cross University and an Advisor to the World
Health Organisation and several Government and corporate bodies in
chronic disease prevention. In the 1990s Dr Egger initiated the GutBusters,
men’s waist loss program, the first of its kind in the world, which has now
developed into the Professor Trim’s Weight Loss Program for men. He is
one of the initiators of the Australian Lifestyle Medicine Association (ALMA)
and runs training programs in Lifestyle Medicine for doctors and allied health professionals.
His recent interests and publications concern the link between obesity, climate change and
economic growth.
Dr David Barling
Dr David Barling is a Reader in Food Policy at City University London. His
research is on the governance of the food supply and food chains with a
recent focus on policy initiatives linking sustainable food consumption and
production. He is co-author of Food Policy: integrating, health, environment
and society (Oxford University Press 2009) and co-editor of Ethical
Traceability and Communicating Food (Springer 2008) as well as over fifty
articles, chapters and reports. He is currently co-authoring a book on
Britain and Food Security. He sat on the expert advisory panel for the UK
Prime Minister's Strategy Unit project on Food and Food Policy 2007-8. He
is a member of: the British Standards Institute Committee AW/90 Quality
Systems for the Food Industry; a trustee of Sustain the UK alliance of food related NGOs;
and sits on the board of the international journal Agriculture and Human Values.
Dr Clare Wall
Dr Clare Wall is a Senior Lecturer in Human Nutrition at The University of
Auckland, Medical School. After qualifying as a dietitian in the UK in 1984
she specialised in paediatric dietetics, working in both the UK and Australia.
She has had many years of practical experience assisting parents, children
and adolescents with nutrition advice and support. She has an extensive
experience in teaching and research in Human Nutrition. She is an active
member of the nutrition community in New Zealand and serves on a number of
national review panels and committees in the infant and childhood nutrition
area. She is a collaborator on a number of research projects with her main research focus being
the interrelationship between the determinants of nutritional status and health outcomes in the
paediatric population.
