Journey to Discovery The year 2010 will be one of challenge for all science teachers in primary and secondary education as they implement the new science curriculum. It will be an exciting time and an opportunity to rethink how science should be delivered in the classroom and laboratory. This is definitely a year to consider attending SciCon 2010, the biennial conference of the New Zealand Association of Science Educators (NZASE). SciCon is always a great opportunity to be inspired, gain valuable resources and establish new networks. In a year of change such as 2010 will be, such an opportunity should not be missed. The theme of SciCon 2010 is ’Journey to Discovery’ and will focus on scientific endeavour in the 21st Century. This will reflect the importance of understanding the nature of science and how to communicate this as the overarching theme of the new curriculum. You will hear Keynote and Cutting Edge speakers who have made significant contributions to new knowledge and who will give insight into how science works in the real world. You will be able to attend workshops, seminars and field trips on a range of topics that will widen your perspectives and invigorate your teaching. All of this in sunny Nelson, a busy and vibrant city and a centre of research excellence, focusing on marine and aquatic issues. There is much here for you to explore, including great seafood and excellent wine! You may even be tempted to spend a little time here beyond the conference and enjoy the region.
