For this meeting, the closing date for the Travel Awards will be 10th January 2012. This year up to 4 Travel Awards can be awarded, depending on the quality of the abstracts submitted. Candidates for the Travel Award  need to identify their eligibility for the Award at the time they submit their abstract. Abstracts need to be a maximum of 250 words, clearly stating the Aims, Methods, Results and Conclusions of the study. The abstracts will be assessed in a blinded fashion by a panel of judges selected by the President that year. The winners of the Travel Awards will be notified by e-mail on the 24th January (2 weeks before the closing date for "Early Bird" Registration). Failure to register for the meeting within a week of notification will result in forfeiture of the award. In such cases, the Award will be offered to the person who achieved the next highest score as assessed by the judges. The number of Travel Awards will be determined each year by the President and the Trustees of the IFMSSS Foundation. Travel awards will be named in honour of previously deceased members of the Society as determined on an annual basis by the Executive Board. The amount of the travel award is USD $1,000. Vandenberghe-Storz Awards One or more awards can be awarded at the discretion of the Judging Committee, for the outstanding presentations by a Young Investigator at the Annual Meeting.  Depending on the number of submissions, there will be 1 or 2 Scientific Sessions devoted to the presentations competing for the Vandenberghe-Storz Awards. The Judging Committee will be made up of at least 4 senior members of the Society. Potential candidates for this Award need to identify the presentation(s) that they intend to deliver at the meeting for the consideration for this Award at the time they submit their abstracts. It is to be noted that although  Randomised Trials and Basic Science Presentations receive a higher weighting than a Case Report, it is still possible for an excellent Case Report to score more points than a poorly-presented Randomised Trial or a poorly designed and poorly presented Laboratory Study. In addition, since the Travel Awards are based on judging of abstracts while the Vandenberghe-Storz Award is judged on the actual presentation at the Annual Meeting, it may be possible for a young investigator to win both awards. Typically the amount of the award is approximately USD $1,500.
