Description
This field trip explores the eroded Miocene volcanic landscape of Te Pātaka o Rākaihautū Banks Peninsula. It looks to showcase the processes that have left their geomorphic signatures in the landscape. But the trip goes beyond the physical landscape by layering the cultural, historical and environmental dimensions and how these are being developed as the basis for a Geopark on Te Pātaka o Rakāihautū Banks Peninsula. The field trip will cross into private land to an isolated and rarely visited coastal exposure with spectacular cliffs, volcanic deposits, valley fill sequences, and a NZ fur seal colony. This tour will take you to a spectacular location that will give you the essence of Te Pātaka-o-Rākaihautū.
